MISSION:
My mission is to empower every client by applying and educating them on the principles of massage therapy and exercise science.
The Power of Healing Touch
Healing touch has existed far longer than any chemical remedy. It is an ancient and effective method of promoting wellness and restoring balance.
Understanding Massage Techniques
Every massage therapist is trained in Swedish (relaxation) massage, though each develops their own unique variation.
Deep tissue massage is a specialized extension of Swedish massage, targeting the deeper layers of muscle beneath the surface.
This approach can sometimes cause discomfort during and after the session, but deep tissue work does not have to be painful to be effective.
Pressure can always be adjusted to match your needs while still achieving results.
The Role of Fascia in Movement
Fascia is the connective tissue that binds muscle fibers into bundles, which then form muscle bellies.
It extends to attach muscles to bones, creating tendons.
This intricate network responds to movement—or the lack of it.
Just as mucus continues to be secreted even when counterproductive (like a runny nose), fascia continues to form connections, even when those connections restrict movement.
Your daily movements—especially large, consistent ones—help break down these restrictive adhesions.
Think of an old cat stretching every time it gets up from rest. That habitual movement is what keeps its body functioning smoothly.
Myofascial Work & Restoring Function
Myofascial techniques help free up movement restrictions that develop over time due to the body’s natural repair processes. These methods can address tightness in tendons, ligaments, and joint capsules, restoring mobility and function.
I integrate these techniques in various combinations to help each client achieve their individual goals.
My Background & Experience
After earning my degree and certification in fitness, I transitioned into the massage therapy industry, where I have worked for the past 25 years. For 12 of those years, I developed, recruited for, and taught in the only state-supported professional massage therapy program in West Virginia.
During that time, I also earned my Master’s in Adult Education. Unfortunately, the program was shut down due to the onset of COVID-19. With my extensive background in both fitness and massage, I can identify contributing factors to physical discomfort beyond just muscle tension.
Client Responsibility & Open Communication
While I can provide insights into possible physical imbalances, clients are encouraged to do further research and maintain an open dialogue with their healthcare professionals. Any self-care applications outside my scope of practice remain the client’s responsibility.
Your body is a multi-dimensional, complex system. Addressing certain areas—such as the glutes, abdomen, and feet—may feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable at first. However, these regions are essential for achieving balance and full-body function.
As a professional, I am always mindful of both the ethical and legal aspects of my work. I strictly adhere to West Virginia’s laws and uphold the highest standards of professionalism.
At the same time, I believe in open communication. Boundaries are important—not only the ones defined by law, but also those that allow you to relax and fully benefit from the healing power of massage.
Thank you for trusting me with your care.
